McLaughlin I’ve been a bit bottlenecked recently with some of my posts. I’ve been stewing over A Special Theory of Productivity and trying to figure out the best way to present it. Meanwhile, another post that I’m working on also needs some preluding explanation. This post is related to both of those.  I’m a huge fan of heat maps, and here recently I’ve started to think about productivity in terms of heat maps, as well. How Heatmapping Your Productivity Can Make You More Productive

McLaughlin With the internet being ubiquitous, you can easily hire someone from the developing countries to do work at a very low price. You can also get professional work done, such as design, photography, etc at a reasonable price. Try Odesk, Go Free Lance and Elance.

McLaughlin Assess – Decide – Do is a simple life management framework. Emerged from some limitations of productivity methodologies like GTD, and constructed with a flexible approach, ADD comes handy when you face difficult or pressuring contexts in any areas if your life. McLaughlin Putting it simply, time boxing is the most effective time management tool that I know of. Even if you already know and use it to some extent, there is a good chance that you can make it even better with some of the tips that follow. For those new to it, time boxing is simply fixing a time period to work on a task or group of tasks. McLaughlin Brett Kelly started The Cranking Widgets Blog in December of 2006 after reading Getting Things Done by David Allen. His newfound excitement about personal productivity was the primary reason for starting this website: a way to communicate little nuggets of wisdom and whatnot to whomever on the old Internet wanted to read them. In November, 2008 Brett decided that he had said everything he could on the topic of productivity and he handed the reigns over to me.

McLaughlin First, there’s the mega-goal approach. Made famous in business by Built to Last author, James C. Collins, who believed the greatest companies all had what he termed “big, hairy, audacious goals” or BHAGs. Other expressions come in the form of classic saying like, “if you shoot for the stars, but land on the moon, that’s still pretty impressive.” Or, it’s gotta be worth the effort. McLaughlin Counterdependence: The act of overcompensating as a result of feeling very dependent and subconsciously moving in the opposing direction. Think “teenagers”. Once teenagers figure out the rules, they begin to look for creative ways to break them as a way to assert their independence. Adults do the same thing. You can choose to funnel that dynamic into productive counterdependence. Boost Creativity: Make Rules To Be Broken.
